Marble Steps Pot

Took a trip down Marble steps yesterday, went down the gully route and then down the intestines route to the lower streamway. Took some time rigging as we were teaching a novice rigger but got down the gully in not too long. Then on to find the intestines, down stink pot, anyone know why the name as no smell there, and into the intestines proper. Not as bad as I thought they would be rigging pitches is difficult though when your in atube only slightly bigger than yourself. But coming back up them and inserting yourself into said tubes is much more fun
Love the roadworks in the lower streamway, anyone know where they are digging, mud in the bottom smelt bad so exited. The trees in the intestines are very big and I still haven't worked out how they got in there although I assume a large volume of water helps.
On a side note the CNCC guide as to where the P bolts are is incorrect, in several places it says there are more bolts than there are, but hey you can live with single anchors.

We did Marble Steps as a club trip a couple of weekends ago, there was enough of us to do an exchange trip, we went down the Gully and the Intestines ( the easy way with gravity ! ), before exiting via the Ninety and Sidewinder routes. The other group doing the opposite.

The exit was slowed a little when the de-rigger of the first Intestines pitch let the rope slip down the pitch, so I had to drop down to the pitch with a rope we had de-rigged from the Ninety so he could re-rig and descend to collect the rope and bag ! So he had to suffer the ascent into the tube twice ! Bet he doesn't drop the rope again.

We managed to find back-ups for all the pitches, although one of the Intestines pitches needs uses a natural back-up someway back from the head of the pitch.

It's a fun trip, but we were surprised how little water there was, but as you say the tree trunks got down there somehow !!

Robin.
