A visit to the National Coal Mining museum is worth a day out if there are enough of you that the underground guide (all ex miners) can break off from the usual joe public tour and expand on the more interesting stuff

There are quite a few tell tales under there and if you are really nice a call in advance sometimes you can walk out of the original drift instead of going back up the lift
