More solo games planned!

Hey there!
Its been tooooo long since my last major solo trip and have over the past month pondered on what to do. After a number of disapointing trips into MC i came to the conclusion that it was to serious to venture any further alone and made a fairly rational decision to wait till i found volunteers, but! i've become rather impatient, and in the coming weeks i'm going to satisfy my hunger and attempt to bottom MC at night(wish i'd had this crack pot idea weeks ago when the weather was stable) and alone. Will keep you guys informed.
p.s any info with regards to terrain after m-crawls would be most appreciated SEEYA.

Good. Instead telling the forum what you are going to do, why don't you just save time and tell the forum what you've been "down to" in the form of a trip report or somesuch?

'Not sure the weather is ideal for such a trip any more'
No offence mean't Bubba but unless you live several miles away from Mossdale, like i do! then you are hardly in a position to tell me, 'what the weather is doing'. A large majority of you guys know what you are talking about, but there are a small number out there who haven't a fucking clue.

So, what was the weather like yesterday/today?

I live 7.1 km from the entrance of MC, and I concur with Bubba's view that the weather is no longer ideal for this particular cave. In fact, I ran past it the day before yesterday and the stream was in semi-spate. The moor saturation level is now back to normal, and the draught is effectively over.

solo + notorious site + prior advertising + writing about it = handbags at dawn

solo + anywhere challenging + no prior advertising + actually doing it = possibly interesting report

I live within ten miles of MC, and I've done several trips into the cave in the last five years, including to two of the three 'ends' of the system (i.e. the northern end and Stream End Cave, I've still to do High Level South).

The weather yesterday (Sunday) was fine, I would have happily done an MC trip. Instead I did an afternoon trip round the Oddmire loop: Strid Passage, Skirfare Inlet and The Roads - a fine solo trip with lots of wet crawling, a bit like MC.

Please keep up the posts Simon, they are of interest. Do not be put off by the opinions of people who have probably not even attempted the cave in question.

Yes, it is more interesting to read about what someone has done rather than what they plan to do. But surely one of the main aims of this forum is for us to be able to ask for information about caves that we plan to do.

Listen - I've already asked people not to talk about trips into Mossdale on the public forums because it is still technically a banned cave. I want to have no part in being shown to encourage access.

If you want to PM or email each other about it then fine.

The weather was appalling over the weekend but hey, I'm sure the bit around Mossdale Caverns was bathed in perfect sunshine. Whatever.

I really don't care whether Simon is planning a trip into Mossdale in unsteady weather. If he wants to kill himself then fine, he knows the risks. In many ways, it'd just be natural selection at work and it might shut him up.

What I do find tiring is his very childish, "willy waving", "aren't I hard I'm soloing Mossdale" type topics. I also will not be insulted and told I have "no fucking idea" on my own forums.

I'll say this once - no, do not keep up such posts - they will be removed from the board and you'll get banned. End of story.

No, not when you're talking about entry into a banned cave. If you want to talk about that then please go elsewhere.

I do believe that there is a good cross section of the caving population using this website, from occasional cavers through regular 'sports' cavers to dedicated explorers.

All users, regardless of ability and depth of experience, and as long as they are not deliberately disruptive, make valuable contributions and make such a forum possible.

Each contribution should be respected and not denigarated by phrases such as "haven't a fucking clue"

I like my caving hard, but it does not give me the right to slag other cavers off!

Johnny

Impressive word - "denigrated" - I had to look that one up. I was suitably impressed by its use. I agree that there probably is a good cross-section of cavers on this forum... shit... take me for instance... I cave once every three years.

It is a shame that it all stoops to name calling based on what we might, can, could, or have not done.

Shame, it's one of the most interesting caves in Yorkshire and it can be hard to get current information about it.

Will do.

Seriously, the weather was glorious on Sunday.

I hope he isn't planning a trip in unsteady weather.

I don't mind people talking about the cave and trips they have already done into the system in the past - in fact we had a discussion on access to Mossdale recently.

I just don't want people to start advertising the fact that they are going to make trips in there/asking for partners/etc...especially when the initial post in this topic was designed to be provocative and was imho a bit dumb anyway:

Suppose a load of you made a trip into the system, misjudged the weather and died...then the media saw the planned trip on this site....you can guess what would happen next and I don't want to attract that sort of publicity.

Some might say that is being OTT but the UK media are well aware of this site and my contact info. after the all the Cuetzalan stuff that went down a while back.

Good point... but can you be held accountable for the opinions of cavers on this forum?? Surely you can't be blamed for the decisions of others.
