A few small caves were broken into when this cutting was first made, during construction of the original road. Another, slightly more extensive cave was discovered in the late 90s/early 2000s(?), that goes under the houses on the Northern side of the cutting. The cutting is in the Milestone Grit (as it used to be termed), just above the limestone or at the contact of the two.
