South wales this week end wicked
3 hours in OFD2 and 4 hours in OFD1
about 3 hours in Eglwn Faen on Sunday

ofd 2
We went round in circles but on different levels all quite close to the entrance, some realy large calisiteyfied waterfalls.
Speedy caver was cool ,
The mini colums were awesome,I enjoyed the climb up to them
I was a bit distracted: it was my first time using my oldham light on my waist and it was getting on my nerves.
Then the batteries on my stupid camera went.
But it was a nice strole

OFD 1 now your talking...........oops must go
the one who must be obeyed wants to go out .

Who thinks of the names for the formations .
I looked at the "toast rack" sorry I just didnt see where that came from.
across plutos bath and into the main streamway,
The stream way, was so noisey,it was really dificult to hear any warnings
or directions.
I was trying to be smart and started traversing the stream.
i was doing really well untill we came to one of the pots
1 large leap and i was across ,just a touch too large and did the splits
in the middle of the stream.thankfully i was at the rear so nobody noticed.
One of the pots the scaff pole was 2 foot under the water

We went through the rawl series and roundabout chamber.
I think we went as far as the bolder chamber via the bedding plane.
I was surprised that i was able to roll even with my battery pack
I am getting used to it now i think.

On the way back we climbed lowes chain which is now a rope
either that or i was in the wrong place.
Yep this is my kind of cave, a few climbs, loads of water
the odd crawl.

Finally completed the through trip - me very happy caver!!!
I really love crawling through Cwm Dwr, so much fun, though it seems to be getting tighter where the gravel keeps building up.
Luckily prevented falling into the large holes in the main streamway, though sometimes I had to swim through them - no problem in a nice neofleece with wetgloves :)
I was also happy to have found an easier way to get up maypole inlet as before we did this stupid open space traverse.

Took us an easy 5 1/2 hrs. Anyone done it in a faster time? I'd love to do it again with some hardcore cavers - anyone interested? I heard it can be done in 4 hrs!

:!: :?: :!: Madness! It's horrible!

Glad you enjoyed it. I did it for the first time at Easter, except in the opposite direction. It's nearly as good as a proper Yorkshire trip :D

As for speed caving: It took us about 2 and 3/4hrs, so I imagine a time of about one and a half hours would be possible - god knows anybody would want to though - you get to see so much more on nice leisurly trips (except if your wriggling through cold water up to your ears that is!)

I've done OFD1, through the connection, up to Top Waterfall, and back out via Maypole inlet in a shade over 2 1/2 hours. We were motoring it, and it is still one of the best troips I have done.

You need a leader for OFD 1 right? How did you find someone to take you down? I've heard that one can be trained to become and OFD 1 leader? Wasn't it one of your Sheffield guys that did the course last weekend? If so, how was it? What did u have to do?

It was me. It isn't a course as such, all you need to do is to go on a trip with a OFD 1 leader, and show them you know your way around the escape route, through the dug out, where Maypole chain goes and when the water is too high to go into the stream. It's a condition of access set down by the landowners. It's not hard, just do the round trip a few times until you know it.
If none of your party are OFD1 leaders, going to the SWCC hut and asking if anyone will take you there will probably work, depending how lasy people are feeling.
