Parking in Ingleton

The police have started a crackdown on parking in Ingleton at the minute.
They are now applying the 1 hour limit on the marked bays outside Bernies and Inglethief with a vengence.
Tickets galore handed out last Saturday - you have been warned.

Peter, Graham, we are not particularly interested in your views on this matter.

Police? well, there's no gates up north so they don't go missing, I guess praying on motorists gives them something to do.

I cannot speak for Peter but I have no particular views on the matter save to note that back in the 1920s the landlord of the Wheatsheaf was a caver and thus would have been rather more friendly than the current incumbent.

Thanks for the warning.

Bad news for Inglesport and Bernies. Instead of a leisurely breakfast followed by a mooch round the shop and some impulse buys, it'll be a lightning breakfast and no shopping.

I suppose if you're staying more than an hour, it's not too unreasonable to go and pay in the car park - but what really annoys me in the car park is that the  prices all end in unreasonable numbers of pence (eg 90) and there is no change given.  If you're going to charge ?3, say so, don't pretend it's really ?2.90. How many people have 90p in loose change in their pocket?

I can see the logic of stopping all-day parking, thus making more free on-street parking available for people using the shops. But 1 hour is too short. I'd accept a 2-hr limit.

I hate to say it but perhaps Inglesport should start a petition to get the bays outside extended, as it would effect bussinuss. Though not me personally because where I park, is not controlled but involves a bit of a walk.

who needs an hour there anyway? Breakfast takes 30 mins max. Shopping 15mins. I don't see what the problem is, use the car park or one of the roads a whole 5-10 mins walk away if you want to stay there longer or if you plan on spending the whole day there.
How do you extend the parking area when there is no space, or do you mean make parking time longer? (which would be bad for business since cars would block the available spots for longer)

Of course an alternative view is that an hour is adequate for most shoppers in Ingleton high street and shops get more custom as opposed to walkers who park early in the morning and return many hours later which surely reults in less customer parking?

Depends when you go, what you order and what speed you eat and drink at... And if one of your mates turns up late and you decide to wait then yes it could take more than an hour.

The police? Or the local council spotting the potential for a quick buck?? ;-) I wish the local traffic wardens would enforce our road more often - its full of idjuts from the auction house across the road who have no idea that we actually have to try and live here!

Might have been rather fewer cars back then though? Of course I can't remember that far back unlike some people.  ;)

I think it was the police I saw a grumpy old police man driving up the street looking at cars.

Fewer cars? probably; it's not I remember that far back, however, it's that the gentleman concerned was the wife's grandfather.

The 3 Horseshoes pub have just installed pay and display which is going to be pretty cheap to use, but is currently FREE as it has not yet come into operation.

For those who don't want to pay at all, there's plenty of unlimited on-street parking near the primary school, which is (naturally) deserted at weekends and only 5 mins walk away if you cut through the playing field behind the community centre.

Thats rather the point, while justi waiting around you aren't spending or shopping, and thats what they want those bays to serve.

If parking charges are too expensive (no one like being ripped off), well I tend to avoid a place and take my custom elswhere like Settle

I see your point, but whilst waiting I may indulge in an extra brew or peruse shiny items etc.. Sometimes even buying.
