Petzl Duo Issue.

Today I did P8 cave, it was nice and sporting and wet. The only trouble is, my Petzl Duo was well due a 'waterproofing' but I didn't do it  :spank:

It has a spot conversion. One of "Custom Duo's" which flickers dimly when it's switched off. It's in the boiler cupboard apart and drying, but if that doesn't do it can anybody suggest the first place to look for possible shorting? dodgy contacts? etc. It seems to be mainly as I twist the 'zoom' setting on the right hand side (changes the LED's brightness of flickering although it used to do... nothing  )

Help?

If its flickering dimly whilst turned off then its probably wet inside. I'm sure you've done the right thing by stripping it down and letting it dry out. Bet it works just fine one its properly dry. A smear of silicone grease should see you fine for your next trip.

Only thing I could suggest is make sure there's no grit in the screw thread, give it a good clean and grease with silicone before putting the light back together.
Off the subject I looked at the Petzl ultra wide light the other day, thought it was very solid and well made.
My only issue is that if your going to spend that much money on a light for another 100 you can get  the cheapest Scurion, which is 700 lumens twice as bright as the ultra wide.
Thinking of getting a brighter light, just so I can see more when I do big pitches, chambers ect, I can't fault my duo though, been a reliable, well priced light.
Any views on this fellow cavers?

If it's flickering when switched off, the first thing that comes to mind is the switch.

Though as far as I can see from looking at a dissassembled Duo here, if the main contact strips are basically in position, moving the focussing lever doesn't cause meaningful movement to propagate through to the switch end of the strips.

Are there any positions of 'off' for the switch that are more off than others?
Does the spot beam go out if the other beam is turned on?

Ok. Have had it dry over night. Tried it again and Yay it works :) The zoom did still turn it off though, but now that's fixed. It seems it was a trapped cable pulling the live taught at the solder, slowly breaking it off. I've released it, and touched it up with a bit of clean solder... and all seems to be well.

It's also now all greased up at the threads and ready to go again.

Cheers for your help. I panicked a little there (It could've held me back from Caving tomorrow :O )
