Hey UKCaving, thanks for accepting the membership of a lowly caver like myself.

Thanks to some stupidity that need not be mentioned, I am in need of a new head lamp. I previously had a Petzl Pixa 1 and was quite happy with it, but the price has dropped quite a bit since I got mine so I think it may as well be time to upgrade. Naturally, I thought the best choice would be the Pixa 3. It is a little more than I was hoping to pay this time, but it seems to be worth the money from some reviews I read already. Looking to see if anyone has one of these and can shed some light (see what I did there?) on the situation and tell me the pros, cons etc. If anyone knows of somewhere taht has these a little cheaper than normal that would be great too, cheers mates :D

It does look pretty killer as well :)

After taking into account what everyone said about the battery life I still did purchase a Pixa 3, only because I do not see myself going on trips that last very long. Right now I only go exploring for an hour or two at a time as that is what my schedule allows, so for the price point this seemed like a good choice for me. If/when I start doing some longer trips I will again start looking at the Fenix and other recommendations on here. Cheers gents :)

Happy to give another thumbs up for Fenix.  (y) (y)
During a recent trip to Hungary, my Fenix battery charger failed in the first couple of days. I was able to share a caving colleagues charger for some of the time, but since two of our intended accommodations were not going to have any electrickery, it looked as though I would have to rely on my back up light.

I did consider pulling the charger apart to see if I could repair it, but thought I would invalidate any warranty if there was any on a 1 1/2 yr old charger.

However, due to the duration time of the battery (I also carried a spare battery) and the light output of the Fenix HL55, I was able to cave quite happily most of the time on the second setting and only moving up to 3rd or 4th gear when required to view the pretties or larger passages. Several cave trips later I still plenty of reserve capacity in one of my batteries for a couple of digging trips after landing back on Mendip.

On my return I contacted MyFenix (The Photon Store) and after an email or two I was asked to post the charger back for assessing. This I did, and within a week a replacement charger landed on my door mat.

Big thumbs up for my Fenix HL55 and MyFenix (The Photon Store).
