Rhino Rift incident

Come on Graham, I'm still waiting. You seem to have a lot to say on the CROW Act thread, as predictably usual, but you have gone strangely silent on this one. Might this be because you have cocked up in a nearly spectacular fashion?

I don't think baiting Graham for a reply is a sensible way to proceed.

Hypothetically, If I had acted in good faith but my actions had resulted in a near miss, I would apologise to the people directly concerned but not prostrate myself before this forum.

Should it be the people who did the work, the people who commissioned the work, the people who issued the keys or the people who omitted to take the keys out of circulation who should apologise?

No, it's the fact I write for the Mail on Sunday.

Post of the year! I chuckled lots.

However, I do agree maybe this could be jumped on easily by a less reputable journo as an easily sensationalised story.

As its two weeks since the remedial work took place do we know if the inspection has taken place or if this is likely soon?

Is this incident RIDDOR reportable?

No. As was confirmed after all the fuss about radon in caves some years ago, the HASAWA does not apply to recreational caving.

Bang fumes are not natural and members of the public were endangered by work commissioned by a company? Isn't that RIDDOR reportable? Sounds like a serious near miss.

I am sure Graham will correct me if I am wrong, but there will have been no element of "employment" here, so is was not a job of work, in the official sense, being undertaken.

Isn't it about reasonable precautions being taken to keep people safe from hazards that risk serious injury?
