It's hard to believe today but this quiet spot, beside the Old Macclesfield Road just outside Burbage, was once a busy colliery where coal was unloaded from small boats onto railway wagons.
Possibly the deep sough to Goyt's Moss Colliery has run in - I'm not sure exactly where the collapse is in relation to the boat level, need to have a look at JB's article in Mining History and see if I can work out.
