Static Request (What the chuff?)

Bit sad this but I've just been looking through the little leaflet most people throw away attached to a newish petzl croll in relation to "Load Figures"

What I was interested in is how well the croll holds a dynamic fall on a static rope (so something that could be achieved if say you where rigging or de-rigging using your croll).

The petzl pamphlet has some great little tables that clearly indicate it being no good taking a FF1 fall, with ropes failing and pretty high peak impacts. FF 0,5 ropes ok but you'll probably be walking with a limp. The third table says "Static Requests" and seem to indicate high peak impacts (comparable to a FF1) and damage to the rope. So what the chuff does "Static Request" mean?

Any ideas??

Cheers!

It is the static load at which the ascender-rope combination fails - in practice, it is normally the rope sheath that fails, numbers vary for different ascenders and different rope construction/diameter/manufacturer.
