Hello,

Just wondering if anyone knew of where to find a survey for Bruntscar cave, I have looked on cavemaps.org but no luck although this is the only place I know of where to find such surveys.

any help would be great!

Thanks
Arran!

Not sure it's been surveyed Arran. It is a simple single passage type of cave with a few oxbows and a low inlet. According to Northern Caves 2 it ends in Boulder choked rifts near the sink at Hodge Hole barn. Check out the old ULSA journals and newsletters which you can view from their website as there may possibly be a survey there.

It's  a great little cave, so just go down it. I have no idea if it reacts to heavy rainfall but note you are in the water for a fair old time so you will get wet and cold. Have fun.

I'm fairly familiar with the contents of Dales caving club libraries and I can't remember ever seeing a survey of Bruntscar Cave. (Cave Mapper is very thorough and I'd have thought he'd have generated one if one existed.)

If you are desperately keen to see a copy of any survey, someone I know (who is overseas / out of contact as I type) may know of one. If it's important enough to you, send a PM and we can discuss. It'll be a while before this can be sorted though.

If one does turn up we can quote the source on here, in case anyone else wants to find it in future.

P.S. this is Gritstone Club territory - it's just possible the late and sadly missed Roger Sutcliffe may have surveyed Brunscar Cave. Another approach might be to contact the Grits via their website and ask if they have anything in their archives. (This club has done excellent work documenting caves on their patch over many years.) It's probably better to try that first before sending me a PM as my first idea would likely take longer.
