Tackle bags

I have got one of their 33H bags about 18 months ago.  Had some hammer carrying cylinders and still fine.

Just bought a Landjoff 33H. It's made from fairly heavy weight material. It's not been underground yet so I can't comment on it's likely longevity. However compared to my Warmbac it's quite basic in design. No inner pocket, less handles, no gear loop, base not reinforced.

If I remember correctly it cost about ?37 Inc postage, whereas my Warmbac was ?46.50 from Starless River excluding postage. So if you can arrange to be in the same place as the Starless van at a weekend to save the postage there's about a tenner in it. In my opinion the Warmbac is worth the extra.

One thing I tend to do with tackle bags is when packing gear is to pack the flimsiest bag for the pitches closest to the entrance, and save the heavy duty bags for deeper in the cave. Saves a bit on wear that way.

Having used my Landjoff bag on a few trips, I thought that I'd take the opportunity to comment on it.

It's only been used on 3 or 4 trips, my Warmbac being my bag of choice for single bag trips.

It's a basic bag. I've added an internal gear loop so that there's something easy to clip to. I like the shape of the top of the sack, it closes down nicely and seems a bit more secure than a straight topped bag.
The material it's made from feels heavyweight and robust, but because the base is only single thickness and not reinforced, it suffers from lots of abrasion where the base meets the side (as in Simon's photo). So much so, that even after just a few trips the heavyweight material has worn through in 2 places. They are only tiny holes, but no doubt more will appear and become linked meaning the bottom of the bag will eventually fall off.

So, the next time I need a tackle bag, I'll buy another Warmbac. They are worth the extra cost over the Landjoff in my opinion

Landjoff have added a pro series now with base strengthening.

Yes, there's one on Ebay at the moment - ?62 + ?12 postage, give or take a few pence.

It may wear as well as a Warmbac with the base seam strengthening, but I think overall the Warmbacs are a better deal.

Agreed!

I'm a fan of Landjoff, I've found them to be helpful and have a fair few of their products now, generally trying to save on postage which is more expensive now than in the past.  I've found the 33HW Landjoff bag I got a few years ago to be a great purchase, it might be a little fat, which means it's a bit heavy at times, but the cost difference between it and the 10cm shorter 28 litre bag is almost nothing.  Used in conjunction with the waist belt it makes carrying stuff a lot easier which is a big plus to me when alone.

I'll be buying another I'm sure.

Btw, you can register as a caving club on the landjoff web site and they give you 10% discount on all their stock then.
