Hi,
I had a good nose around in Thrupe last Saturday as I hadn't been in there for at least 10 years and couldn't remember it
Providence Pot - is it a climb or a pitch? :?:
I free climbed it, Robin free climbed down, but insisted on a ladder for the way back up, and Pete didn't fancy coming down even with a ladder (but then he is from SRT country [Yorkshire] )
Obviously, we changed our plans to suit our wishes, but what do you do?
At the bottom of Providence is a low crawl into a small chamber on the side of a rift with a stream at the bottom. There didn't seem to be an obvious, easy climb down (15') from the chamber to the streamway. Is this usually a pitch? :?:
On the way out we had a look down the Railway Series. Near the far end was a descending, narrow passage [blasted?] (down and to the left on the way in) It just ended in a blank, and was a bit of a sod to turn round in. Either I was struggling far too hard, or there was a bit of bad air down there.
Hat's off to the digging crews!
All in all, it was an enjoyable little trip, but I think we'll have to take a few more ladders in future.
