Hi,

I had a good nose around in Thrupe last Saturday as I hadn't been in there for at least 10 years and couldn't remember it

Providence Pot - is it a climb or a pitch? :?:

I free climbed it, Robin free climbed down, but insisted on a ladder for the way back up, and Pete didn't fancy coming down even with a ladder (but then he is from SRT country [Yorkshire] :) )
Obviously, we changed our plans to suit our wishes, but what do you do?

At the bottom of Providence is a low crawl into a small chamber on the side of a rift with a stream at the bottom. There didn't seem to be an obvious, easy climb down (15') from the chamber to the streamway. Is this usually a pitch? :?:

On the way out we had a look down the Railway Series. Near the far end was a descending, narrow passage [blasted?] (down and to the left on the way in) It just ended in a blank, and was a bit of a sod to turn round in. Either I was struggling far too hard, or there was a bit of bad air down there.
Hat's off to the digging crews!

All in all, it was an enjoyable little trip, but I think we'll have to take a few more ladders in future.

I think you mean Perseverance Pot. You were looking down Bridge Rift which does need tackle. The main way on in the cave is to climb up to the obvious chamber (Butts Chamber) above Bridge Rift and then turn left to follow the Marble Streamway to Atlas Pot.

You probably missed the way on in Railway Series - if you climb up after the wet squeeze you'll find the route to High Atlas and the 58 metre pitch.

Ooops... Thank you Andy
Lesson to self: Read the survey/description, even if you do think you know the way!

Is it nearly at the end, up slope (right) from the main crawl, and into a lower section of passage with a water collector (on the left)? If it is a wet rift, in the floor of a small aven with water dripping everywhere, and a rope handline tied to a small boulder on a small ledge at floor level, then I think we did find it.

Oh, OK - sounds like you did go the right way. The rope climb is Chimney Pot and if you turn the wrong way at the bottom by wriggling through the obvious squeeze you can get quite a surprise as you emerge over Mendip's deepest pitch!

and BTW the poll....
You could include 'SRT pitch' as an option. Actually the pitch is any of the four possible options. And if you don't like any of them you can go down the alternative Slit Pot instead!

I know how to change the text of a message I have posted, but does anyone know how I can change an aspect of a poll :?: i.e. add SRT for Andy
