Veteran Cavers wanted!

Hi all,

Nigel Atkins and I are talking at the Outdoor show in a few weeks time. It's a general introduction/explanation/sales pitch for caving. One of the angles I wanted to play on is that caving becomes a life long pursuit for many people.

So I'd like to have a single slide with a coupld of pictures of an 'older' (60+) caver or two and then say a few words about them. e.g Joe Blogs at the age of X just did X. He's been caving for X years.. Or even better if someone has a good story.

You can PM me on here if you can recommend someone.

cheers,
Chris

Bob Toogood should surely fit into this catagory.

bob toogood out drinking everyone at the Eldon Hidden Earth Albania Stylee stomp.

Was on the Neil Moss trip, first started digging Gautries when he was 17 and was one of the ones pushing it last year when the extensions were found. Only one on the Eldon Albania trip to walk up and down the hills every day without so much as a moan. (unlike my good self who earned the nick name ooomekneee  :-[)

Legend

There are more wrinklies in Yorkshire caving than there are people under 30. Names that spring to mind include Ged Benn, Stu Ingham, Stuart Hesletine, Ric and Pat Halliwell, John Gardner, and Dave Checkley. In fact Shuttleworth Pot was dug out mainly by citizens of the senior variety. And one mustn't Geoff Workman, still digging in and around  Stump Cross Caverns at the venerable age of 80.

Jimmy Ratbag...phwoooaarr!

I'd like to vote for my good friend the 'Gardenator' too as a bit of a legend but unfortunately I don't have any similar photos of him!  :cautious:

Brilliant suggestion by Langcliffe of John Gardner - he's got most of his own teeth and talks coherently and looks cool too.

I don't usually post soft porn on public forums, but this is being posted at the request of Jude.  For Jude's delight and your edification, the one and only Jimmy 'Ratbag' Rattray:

Thanks Gardenator.
Told you it was a good one!

Very impressive photo of Jimmy I think, I know a lot of younger men who don't look half as good as that in wellies!

Chris (J):

Is this the event which the BCA fake cave is required for? If so, please can you or James contact me ASAP with the dates - otherwise you may find it is booked out elsewhere.

Nick.
