I have to say I do not want to get into a tit for tat match,
the problem is when people and not singling any one person, says something be it with good or tongue in cheek intentions it can immeadiately put ideas into ones head, right or wrong, the suggestion is made an the idea is planted.
as an example should one teach a hangmans noose? so the idea is the hangman, or should I teach a slip knot, which a hangmans noose is just one example amongst many, all of which can be used to hang you or anyone with, or should I teach the right application of a slip knot not referring to it as a slip knot but say a barrel knot for use in attaching karibiners to cows tails?
guess what I am saying is how you suggest something is how people interrupt what your saying,
scouts, paid instructors, and uni introduce a lot of people to caving, hopefully we all follow best practises, thus trying to reduce an incident where cave rescue would be called.
one cannot always risk assess it perfectly, things can happen beyond your control, but if cap n chris is right on numbers caving each week ( another thread I think) then we must get it right more often than not.
