Walking backwards from York to the Dales.

I think I remember reading an autobiography of a famous caver, and they mention they were driving to the Dales and passed a caver who was walking backwards from York to Ingleton/Settle/Skipton or somewhere. Does anyone know if this actually happened? I'm pretty sure I read it but it was a decade ago so maybe I've remembered it incorrectly. I think the account was from the '60s, '70s or '80s.

That would be Sid Perou's soundman, Lindsay Dodd. He had a couple of walks like that.

I can remember helping on one of those walks. I think it was the one he did from Leeds to Ingleton.

Thanks for the info! I couldn't be sure if I'd read it or not. I wonder what muscular effects it has as the body isn't designed for it.

Lindsay's walk from Leeds to Ingleton was in the early seventies. I was one of a number of ULSA members who accompanied him from the Parkinson building to the bar of the Craven Heifer and I'm pretty sure the distance was a record-breaking 50 miles - the previous record was done on a running track.

Not sure whether this is relevant but I'll chuck it into the conversation; wasn't there also a certain well known ULSA member who once crawled around the Three Peaks route?
