If its any help, I just learnt last weekend why sediments are so important...

You can date their deposition using Cosmogenic radionuclide dating
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_exposure_dating

This allows the sediments to be used to determine the age that streams flowed along a particular passage. Useful stuff if you are a karst geomorphologist.

Look  :unsure: some science...

Not just when something flowed, but how much, which direction & so much more, especially if they include archaeology or palaeontology.
