For modern lights that use AAs, see:
https://sites.google.com/site/musccaving/map/buying-gear/lights/lights-which-use-aas

I use the Spark.

Have to agree with droid here.

My Trigon (not even Roy Fellows premium product) is brighter than any of the 'mega bright' lamps you listed.

Perhaps not the lamp for every cave (or caver) but great for photography in big dark spaces.

hi all,

I did not meen to offend by trying to catagorise lamps, just trying to list the ones i have used, seen or heard of, and just loosly lumped them in rough price / lumim / popularity / etc,

I am after trying to find any obvious / obscure lights in use below ground i havent heard/found/used yet

so any upset felt, i am sorry

Apparently unlike everyone else on the forum with a dazzling (literally) array of luminants, I use a completely unmodified Petzl Duo, with a Tikka for emergencies.  Cheap, and simple, like most Yorkshire folk ;)

I've been thinking about putting up a list on the wiki of the available lights, as questions about the best light to get come around again and again. I'll make a start on it when I have a spare hour or so, and folk can add to it.

The Magum Star seems mythical, is it actually a commercially available light?

I use an unmodified Duo too, it's bright enough for what I want. If I wanted to do something in the light I'd do canyoning  ;)

I have a Fenix HP 11, which is cheaper than a Duo (I think) and a whole lot brighter. (And a tiny Fenix E-11 for back up, that packs quite a punch for its size.)

When I said a modified Duo I just meant a bright LED in place of the halogen.

With groups I give them all a Tikka XP as their main light. I usually have smaller children so the weight saving is valuable. They last plenty long enough and are waterproof enough for anything short of sumps.

My main is a Tesco ?10 guts / optic in an Oldhams head, petzl zoom batery box,
cost less than duo, brighter than duo (new insert @ 60 ish reversed that! )
back-up tactical flashlight (? 7-00) on side of hat. to scare Sheep / Badgers etc'.

Was a Sten until one of the cells died and batteries seem difficult to come by.
Luckily I gained a Petzl Pixa 3r.
Have a Fenix E11 (i think) which is a great spotting light/backup.
