White Lady Cave

According to reports White Lady Cave needs no tackle but at least a 2 metre or so hand line of some kind is required, am I right?
Or is there another way in other than the short climb down (and up)?

As far as I can remember White Lady  Cave does not need a hand line.  But this one might:

WHITE LADY CAVE, SUPRA.  A narrow entrance directly above White Lady Cave, reached by a tricky climb, leads to chamber covered in moonmilk.  Ref Peleobates (50) 25

There is a short climb down in the dry stream bed just as you approach the cave. Most people will not have a problem with the climb down, but there is as I remember an 8mm spit just above the drop if you wanted to rig a handline.

No, it's the main entrance I refer to. I have no problems climbing down but although I have not looked at it properly I am very short and the climb up doesn't seem to have any holds only a slippery big boulder. Thought I might have trouble climbing it up (if I don't want to keep going downstream that is)

That sound good enough to me, will def check that spit!

Nat,

You will most likely need a hanger for the spit (on left wall looking downstream). You can also back up to a small tree a little way further up in the stream bed. Climb is only one move but, as you say, is awkward for people with short legs (myself included). Secret is to get as high as possible before fully committing yourself. Best to be safe as rock can be damp and slippy.

If you go there, take a look at Town Drain (entrance in left bank going downstream) as well. A far nicer (and more interesting) cave than many people imagine. Best avoided in wet weather tho'!

Thanks guys. Yes!! Town Drain seems to be really nice and different, I will hope to check it on the same day.

Does anyone know what to do when you arrive too early or too late for the caves with regards to access permitted? I mean if I am going to do them at 2am when I get there, I don't want to turn up at the Farm and wake them up. Does anyone know if there is any other way to pay the fee? Send them a cheque perhaps?

Mind they do have dogs so you might disturb them so might just be better to pay extra next time you visit.

As Liz says, you would most certainly get the dogs barking at that time of night. Just call at the farm later in the day or next time you are in the area.

Thanks Guys, I don't like the sound of "guard" dogs "welcoming" me in the middle of the night . Will try and get to them caves during the daylight then
