Hi all.
Date: July 2012.
Venue: Swildons (Priddy, Mendips)
Story: Being the self distinguished, "Most unorganised caver in the South West" ... I entered Swildons to complete the trip to sump 2 and a look up the landing and St Paul series. (Average 3-4 hour trip, medium to high grade) in just a shorty, some surfing shorts and steel capped boots from work.
On trip you pass through the stream way and sump for a considerable time. The stream was in good flood and my feet were submerged in the water most of the trip.
My feet were frozen within the first half an hour and I lost all feeling and went numb...now this doesn't bother me, but what I hadn't noticed from said numbness was the thumb tip sized stoned that had lodged itself in a cosy spot right on top of my sport sock covered left foot.
Anyways, cut a long story short we left Swildons and during dressing down I had noticed said stone had worn through my sock and also a good majority of my flesh.
I know I'm not glorifying myself pretty well here and maybe subject to some embarrassment, but this is my most vivid memory of a footwear malfunction I've experienced.
Has to be said wellies all day long now when caving, or thick wetsocks under the work boots if I do ever forget my wellies
....Want a picture?!
All the best, Mike K.
