I have drafted a letter to Derbyshire Dales DC which I'm getting checked over by DCA and PICA right now. This is aimed to highlight that they have excluded a large group of users from the area and had a negative impact on the ability of some users (Scouts groups and outdoor education centres) ability to use Devonshire Mine now there is no parking for vans coaches and minibuses. I have also pointed out the drop in car park revenue and the increase in parking on residential streets that is likely to occur in future. I imagine PDMHS are considering a response themselves as they also have the issue of a potential loss of custom through a drop in museum visitors if coaches cannot park locally.
If you have any other points that you think are worth me highlighting feel free to PM me. Once the letter has been double checked and edited, I'll post it here along with a link to who to send it to. I'd then encourage as many people as possible to send it in to DDDC as well in either it's original form or in your own wording. The more letters and complaints they get, the more likely they are to listen.

My small motorhome will almost certainly not fit under any height barriers as it has an overcab bed despite being small enough to fit in most single parking spaces. I often visit Matlock while camping nearby and don't mind paying for parking but it sounds a bit less hospitable now....

Thanks - I'd be happy to write to them too.

PARKING FOR DEVONSHIRE
Temple Road car park in Matlock Bath is the parking area commonly used for Devonshire Mine trips. Recently Derbyshire Dales DC have installed a height barrier on the car park following some concerns about travelling communities using the area. Any one of you that runs a business or has personal use of a van or other high vehicle has now effectively lost access to Devonshire mine unless you either park a long way away or in residential areas. I personally think that height barriers are a terribly poor way of controlling a problem user group and is simply a kneejerk reaction by DDDC. I drafted a letter to send them to explain the plight of mine users and ask that they rethink the barriers. This letter was accepted by both DCA and the PICA Officers and has gone to DDDC signed on behalf of both organisations.
Now the letter should have arrived with them, I’d like to move on to step 2. Attached is the plain text of the letter and who to send it to. It is in PDF format because the forum can't do uploaded Word files. To get it into Word, open the PDF, highlight text and then copy and paste across. If anyone reading this post can take 5 minutes to email or write to DDDC about this matter too then that would be excellent. Use the attached text as inspiration for your own complaint, or just send in the attached text with your signature and details on. The hope is that with a surge of complaints, DDDC might consider removing the barrier or leaving it unlocked.
Any questions please get in touch. It’d be great to hear from anyone who does send a letter in so I can keep track of progress. Please take the time to do this.
