Backpackers travelling on the cheap sometimes use schemes like Workaway, helpx, and WWOOF which list hosts around the world who will put you up and feed you, for a few days to a few months, in return for 20 - 25 hours of work a week.
These are usually smallholdings, B&Bs or families who could do with some light manual labour and general help. The volunteer usually gets fresh local food, a cultural experience and a couple of days free per week to see the local area.
I was wondering if anyone has considered doing this or something similar near a caving region abroad? It could be a good way to get some sport caving done while spending hardly any money. E.g. being based on a farm in Slovenia, or a g?te in the Vercors.
Anyone done anything like this in practice?
