I just came across this photo on a Facebook group of Paul Newman at Speedwell Cavern in 1971.

Does anyone have any 'celebrity' related caving encounters ?

Seems it was a bit earlier than that (& Corrie too):

They were filming The Spanish Princess at Wookey Hole one day a couple of years ago, when we were there, but only saw the film crew, none of the stars.

Not exactly cave, but a mine.
Robert Plant  owned, and possibly still does, land at Ystrad Einion copper mine in mid Wales.
He was born near me and I think we vaguely knew each other when I met him there in the late 1980s.

He let me camp on his land and bought his family down to see me one morning.

I guess that was your first encounter Led

A friend of mine was recording an album in Wales years ago and bumped into Robert Plant in what proved to be his local - she said they had a fine time, and he was a lovely guy. And she's met plenty of twats, so I trust her judgement.

There was a story told of when Chris Bonington met the Eldon Pothole Club. https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?topic=26570.msg325268#msg325268

Let us not forget one of the most famous cave related celebrity incidents:

Top-roped Chris Bonington up a climb at Baildon Bank when he got stood up by Ian Clough in the mid-60s.

Once, in Inglesport Cafe, to my enduring shame, I mistook Geoff Crossley for John Cordingley - having never met either at the time.

Crikey, nearly forgot my own celeb encounter.  Mike Harding visited us at the Berger base camp TSG  1987. Here he is pictured on my 6foot blow up crocodile which he duly signed for me. Pictured with his are the late  Ray Fairholme, Steve Breedon and the late Buster Wright.
Happy days

Saw Mike Harding at the Gamecock Christmas before last, when we were staying at the Bradford.

Met a few 'famous' people whilst I was a guide at Speedwell, mostly local news presenters and the like. Occasional footballers etc. My most memorable encounter was when I took Lee Evans, his wife and his minder on a tour. Lee kept mentioning how dark it was in the cave until his wife pointed out he hadn't taken his sunglasses off since we'd left daylight 😂. He was genuinely a really nice bloke, seemed really interested and never stopped asking questions.

I met a couple of celebrities, whilst I was a cavern guide at Masson Cavern, 'Heights of Abraham', between 2000 - 2006. The first was Ken Livingstone (ex London Mayor, etc) who visited during August one year, as part of a group. The second was Ian Lavender (Dad's Army & Eastenders) who visited in September, with one other. The giveaway was his peaked cap with 'Pinewood Studios' on it! Both were very different, with Ken high-profile visiting in 'peak' season, whereas Ian kept a low-profile, visiting in a quieter month. Don't think they visited in same year, would need to check my diaries. Would have been nice to have got autographs and/or photos, but sadly got neither.  :(
Cheers, Paul.
Note: I have met a few other celebs, including; Denis Law (ex footballer) and more recently Vicky Butler-Henderson (TV Presenter; Motorsport), but not caving related.

Mike Atherton used to have Sunday lunch at the Wizard and parked his car in front of the DCC visitor centre. Sadly Todge and co. had no idea who he was.
