    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Craig A Ffynnon - Fixed line Damage

I had a great trip down Craig A Fynnon at the weekend with the Bracknell District Caving Club.  Three of us made the trip to Helictite Passage and back safely.

We noted that there are two ropes on the 15m pitch just before the second boulder choke.  One is knotted to provide a handline, the second is a "lifeline".

If you visit the cave, please note that the "lifeline" is severely damaged where it is tied into the Y hang - with the sheath totally compromised on the right side, and evidence of damage to the left side.

This is not a particularly difficult climb, and more confident climbers will not be at all bothered, but we did use it to belay up, for safety's sake, before we noticed the damage!

It is a useful reminder to all of us to treat all fixed aids with suspicion!  :-\
