    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Hopewell Colliery

I thought I'd update people about this site: I've driven past Hopewell Colliery in the Forest of Dean many times and intended to stop off someday and do the underground tour/museum. I finally got organised to visit with the kids over the Easter holidays. However, I spoke to soemone there by phone yesterday and it seems they are no longer doing tours except for booked school groups.

We went to Big Pit instead.

We have used it in the past as a venue for training with the local Mines Rescue Team. I've no doubt that we'll use it again in the future, so if you join the team Rhys you'll be able to have a look.
The kids might have to wait a few years though.

I am a member of the mines dig-out team. I haven't been on any practices, as yet, though...

Rhys - Now your favourite Baroness has sadly passed on - maybe the Hopewell Colliery will reopen?

I was there today. Its certainly open for tours and they are still coal mining there as well. Rich Daniels is on a first aid course that I'm running and he is one of the freeminers there.
