    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

    High level traverse in BPOTW

I was in the North Chamber the other day and noticed a high level traverse with insitu ropes going above the large section of flowstone further down than the Roberts inlet aven. Does anyone know what the name of this route is and where it leads? I climbed up to look at the start of it but the...

New Bolts in Bull Pot of the Witches - why?

I was in on Tuesday. At the head of the chimney entrance there were 2 new bolts and a notice not to use till 1/7/12. The bolts that were already there looked to be in perfect condition and in a good position for a Y hang. The new resin bolts seem to be in a poorer position and also only just big...

    Valley Entrance

Hi, I went in VE today and just wondered if anyone who knows it well could give me some hints as to where I got to as I've had trouble tracking down a decent survey. At the fork I took the left passage 1st and following a shallow wet crawl I reached an inlet in the form of an aven with water...

Level 1 caves - core skills - Dales

So I've wired most of the group caves now and have been on a whole bunch of good club trips doing more exiting stuff. What I've realised though is that on clubs trips, with competent cavers, many of the sections that would require level 1 slills (hand lines, lifelines, traverse lines etc) are...

    Radon?

Is radon present in the caves in the dales like it is in the Peak? Does anyone know if there is any data available anywhere? Are some systems/regions more affected than others? Many Thanks

    Ruscar and Thistle

Last week I went through the Runscar and Thistle caves. I was interested to know if it is normally possible to go all the way through both of these series'. I made it through all of the Ruscar caves, top to bottom but there was foam on the roof of the short final section of the lowest cave. I...

    Water level indicators

I was wondereing if there are any easily accessible locations where water levels can easily assessed on the surface in the dales for the different regions, and any general rules of thumb (with wide safety magins) to decide which cave trips are viable. Obviously I am aware that one also must be...

Site not letting me PM or email

I'm trying to get in contact with another member but when I try to PM or email it just keeps crashing after saying "waiting for ukcaving.com" for about 10 minutes. Any clues?

    Level 1 Group Caves

Hi I'm moving to Lancaster from the Peak and am midway through my LCMLA Level 1. As I'm completely new to the Dales caving scene I wondered if anyone could advise which caves I should get on my ticket for group work. Any advice is most appreciated.
