BCA membership and those aged under 18

I know one of my clubs went to the Forest of Dean on the May bank holiday weekend recently and to go caving the kids needed BCA insurance with their membership numbers submitted for the permit. We’ve got an ‘alien’ due in next couple of weeks and we can’t wait to sign them up - they...

    Shepton hut

Hi, I’ve checked with the hut booking officer and it’s fine to stay at the hut this weekend on Saturday night. They think they have responded to you on email as well and suggested it might be in your spam.

    Cardiff University Darenthon

Amazing effort Cardiff and Aber! Great write-up and it wouldn’t be a student trip with it starting before lunchtime anyway! Clearing so much rubbish from the cave is worthy of a few extra laps I’m sure! Well done on the massive amount of money raised for SMWCRT!

Good luck this weekend - keep us updated! Looks like you’re just £40 short of your £1000 target!

I’m sure supportive cavers would happily help with suggestions on some of your logistic plans - probably even the rescue team would have advice too even if just to double check you’ve covered all bases!

    Cardiff University Darenthon

I wouldn’t bother replying to the person above as they have spent the entire evening telling a WhatsApp group they don’t agree with your attempt and now they are suggesting we “sit on the sidelines with a cup of tea and watch it unfold” - assuming that you will fail and cause a rescue. However...

Hi, Pictures would be really great, just an overview shot perhaps, but also do you have a starting figure in mind? Thanks

    Another cave on t'telly

I watched this recently and would agree I think it’s the Hellfire caves at High Wycombe. Although I’ve only been there once before it was my instant thought.

    EV charging

I understand what grant’s you were considering but most caving huts will more than likely have what is classed as a normal domestic supply when it comes to electricity capacity, despite being classed as a business for their profile use. A standard single phase supply regardless of being business...

    EV charging

That would never work because the EV installers/grants cannot restrict your other load on the connection and I don’t believe they state what kind of supply you have or what other loads you allow. Many EV chargers have built in load restriction which stop the fuse on the cut out being overloaded...

Wind turbines causing rain? [Split from Mossdale.]

However these costs are covered by the project installing the renewables so should be factored in on their costs rather than paid for by the distribution company. Something which is costing the UK currently is the age of our network which needs reinforcement/maintenance. A lot of it was built...

    Cycle touring: flats or SPDs?

I always ride clipless in the UK on road, cycle paths and the like. Not brave enough to mountain bike clipless yet. I’ve done a few tours and generally clipped in for those but we leave in 2.5 weeks for another and we don’t plan to be clipless on that trip. It all depends on what you fancy...
