    Derbyshire to Dales

Two (or maybe four) small items from either Buxton or New Mills (to suit you) need to get to the Dales (west side, ideally Green Close / NPC). If you think you may be able to help please could you PM me? Thanks!

    Found walking poles; Whernside

Thanks; they were on the steep direct path that leads up from above Gunnerfleet Farm - the one that emerges onto the ridge only about 300 m SW from the summit.

    Found walking poles; Whernside

Long shot this - but I found a matching pair of walking poles (with walking stick handles) on one of the lesser used routes up Whernside last Friday (11th July). If by any remote chance the owner is a user of this forum, send me a P.M. and we'll figure out how to get them back to you.

CNCC Geology excursion, Sunday 10th August

Just a quick heads up; there's one spare place left on this event, if anyone fancies joining the party? If a couple wanted to come along, we could always accommodate one extra person if need be, so don't let only one remaining space be an obstacle if you're in that situation. If anyone's...

    NEW BOOK ON WEARDALE

Got mine - nice little book! Be aware that caving isn't the main theme but anyone who would like a great introduction to the Weardale setting with a focus on its architectural history will find it invaluable. It would be a good companion volume to the Northern Caves guide covering this area, for...

Headlamps vs Cave Ecosystems: New Research from Belize's ATM Cave

Here are some typical lampenflora growing in a show cave; mosses and ferns. (Not higher plants.) In this particular cave the plants are regularly cleaned off but this patch is left as a teaching aid for school groups on science-themed tours, when they learn about the involvement of light energy...

Headlamps vs Cave Ecosystems: New Research from Belize's ATM Cave

They're surprisingly common - but they're all "proper plants" of course. Most of what are seen in show caves will be algae, mosses or ferns. Most algae are unicellular and arrive in the film of water. Mosses and ferns reproduce from spores, which are adapted to travel in air currents, which is...

    Wezzit?

Not been caving for a few weeks following hand surgery, so I've nowt fresh to contribute. Please would someone else jump in?

    Repairing Warmbac Oversuit Waterproofing

It's not a perfect result and does make the suit slightly more stiff but it was an improvement. Bear in mind I applied it to areas in need, not the whole suit. Maybe try a small area first to see how you get on?

Regarding a cave in Norway visited by Pete Livesey in 1965

Just wondering if Trevor Faulkner might be able to shed any light on this, although I don't know if he uses this forum.

    Repairing Warmbac Oversuit Waterproofing

I seem to remember watching a video on YouTube a while ago about making a DIY waterproofing compound that can be painted on, using silicone sealant dissolved in (I think) acetone. But last time I had this problem on an equivalent suit made by Beaver I just turned it inside out and painted on...
