Oak stemple from Far Sump Extension

Thanks AR - your opinion counts for a lot. I did wonder about asking John Harrison (whom I meet from time to time in a professional capacity). Offering it to the mining museum would always have been my default option as a very good home, if no other suggestions emerged. Just wanted to throw...

What caving related thing did you do today?

Me too; it was a difficult day. Yes, he will certainly be missed.

    Free: Selection of Journals

Without checking directly, I don't think we have that Westminster item in the NPC library. Could I stake a claim until an opportunity arises to get it moving northwards by caver post? (No rush.) Please don't bin the other items, especially the less common BSA and CRG material. They're wonderful...

Oak stemple from Far Sump Extension

That was part of the original idea (see my post above) but it's probably no longer of value because the mining history is now so much better known than it was in the early 80s. My query is more to do with finding someone / some place to give it to, where it'll be appreciated.

    "Voice tube" for communication

Somewhere in the past I've read something about one being used to communicate through a short sump but I can't remember where it was written.

Oak stemple from Far Sump Extension

In the early 1980s, when the only access to Peak Cavern's Far Sump Extension was by a long dive through Far Sump, the original miners' route into this area was still a mystery. At first we thought it was via a 27 m high stempled aven above Salmon's Cavern. Whilst we were climbing this aven some...

    Best Ever Wildlife Song

Freebird? Well you did ask. (Sorry, had to mention it cos I was there. In my defence, I was very young!)

Dales to South Wales (not especially urgent)

Many thanks to the two folk who have PM'd me about this. Looking like we're sorted now (in case anyone else was considering offering to help).

Dales to South Wales (not especially urgent)

I have a large quantity of photographic flashbulbs that need to find their way to Chris Howes near Abergavenny. It's two boxes, one large one small. Both fairly light (but a bit fragile, obviously). They're currently near Clapham (between Settle and Ingleton). They could be stashed at the NPC's...

    Wezzit?

Damn; I'd have got that one but been out all morning, so missed it! Cymmie's surveys are so distinctive.

    Caving artwork

Sorry, my post above Mike's should say "ISSA" (not "ISDSA"). Was late for work and not typing carefully enough!

    Caving artwork

I wondered about that too - but why signed "Chrissy"? Unless Chrissy is the name of the subject? Maybe worth trying to get a message through via the contacts on the ISDSA website?

    Caving artwork

That's quite good. Might be worth consulting ISSA members as someone would probably recognise it? http://www.issa.org.uk/html/first.htm

    Hut shaft

Which hut shaft? Does your question relate to "Hut Pot" overlooking Littondale (the former MUSS project)?

Wookey Hole unveils model of the moon in underground cave

Maybe you should book it for your club's winch meet next month Braveduck, so it can be hung in the Main Chamber as a novel feature in the UK's most famous pothole!
