Trying to find 2 lads

Hi, new to this site, don't know if this is the appropriate place for this post so please direct if it's not. Was at Masson Lee's climbing yesterday and got talking to 2 fellas at the parking place who'd just come up from one of the caverns. Would love to touch base with them again as they seemed like good fellas and me and my climbing partner are quite keen to try a bit more caving after having a little exploration of the cavern at the back of the quarry.

If you don't find those particular two cavers, ask again very nicely here... and you might find another two who also might take you caving (warning: that might cost you in beer afterwards depending on who you find)

In that case, I will add to my original post. If anyone fancies taking me and potentially my climbing partner on a little cave trip, there's bucket loads of psych and a few beers afterwards on offer 👍

Is it going into the mines/cavern your interested in ?
Yes mate, well caving in general. Seems like a good hobby to have as a climber seeing how wet the UK is, can always be doing something. If it's dry go climbing, if it's wet to caving

Good luck with that!!!
Well hence the reason of trying to find an introduction into caving with someone who knows what they're doing. I climb upwards not downwards, I know how to navigate the vertical world but I'm completely green when it comes to the subterranean

Sorry – that was very insensitive of me, but it was meant as a bit of a joke bearing in mind that many caves are prone to flooding.

Just keep lurking on this site, occasionally bumping the thread. I'm sure at some point someone will offer you some caving.

Your climbing background will be enormously helpful a d there is a good overlap between climbing, caving and arborist, but... (from my very limited experience) keep an open mind that caving has some specific situations and therefore specific skills in terms of rope stuff (SRT) that may not fully overlap with climbing. The closest thing to caving might be Industrial Rope Access rather than climbing. If you have any background in that you will be completely at home with SRT

I've had a little play around with SRT techniques, had to cut a tree down for my pal a couple years ago. Would need to get myself some dedicated gear though as I've only got climbing sit harnesses which I'd assume would be too bulky for squeezes? The only dedicated descender I've got is an Anthron Lory safe which again I'd assume is no good, reasoning being I can imagine it getting clogged up with mud and debris.

On this site look for new to caving or try caving in the headings.
Also try the Derbyshire , or Derbyshire caving org.. clubs, TSG (technical geological group). Eldon pothole club, orphesus caving club. Derbyshire caving club.

SRT harnesses by design have an attachment point which is lower than most climbing harnesses, which is their best benefit. They also tend to have less padding and are therefore less bulky than climbing harnesses.
