How far are the effects of earthquakes felt?

Blasting is going on in Ball Eye Quarry though, which isn't that far from Clatterway. It may be that rather than the earthquake. Of course it could be entirely natural and just 'time to fall'. I'm not exactly sure what they use at Ball Eye, but at Hope Cement they're using AMFO as far as I know, as they need to shatter the rock as much as possible to reduce the amount of crushing at the plant. I know they've felt the blasts at Blue John Cavern recently, which is 2.6km away. Awkward one to explain to tourists when they obviously didn't hear the warning siren.

What is Nettlebed?
As Paul explained, it's a large cave in North-West Nelson, New Zealand. Now the bottom half of a 1200m deep 2-3 day through trip. As well as good earthquakes (& good caves), NZ also does good nettles - the sort that can kill a man/horse, and makes english nettles look rather prim & pretty. The bed of nettles at the cave entrance is OK however - you don't have to crawl through it.
