    Digging in Fairy Cave Quarry

So who is digging in Fairy Cave Quarry currently? I spotted two dig sites yesterday when I was there climbing. Getting up to the base of Withy Crack is currently a tad more tricky with all the rubble around.

    Lifespan of equipment

Have you ever wondered what the different climbing equipment manufacturers state as the maximum life span of their different products? As many of the manufacturers product caving equipment, I would imagine that this may be of interest to you. Well to save you the time of looking for all of the...

    Solo Caving - Should we?

I see no issue with soloing of any kind. In fact over the years I have done solo trips in the mountains - walking, scrambling and climbing in both summer and winter conditions. Solo ski tours and solo scuba dives, I've done solo trips down white water (up to and including grade 4) rivers in...

    Hopewell Colliery

I was there today. Its certainly open for tours and they are still coal mining there as well. Rich Daniels is on a first aid course that I'm running and he is one of the freeminers there.

Local Cave Leader Training For Scout Leaders

The Scouts have got an appropriate technical advisor - http://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/search/?cat=419,817 Their system of approving leaders is the main issue that you lot are discussing here and their system works on a tickle down process for all adventure sports, the fact that...

Local Cave Leader Training For Scout Leaders

Remember in this country you don't need to hold an NGB award to take a group out on the hills, down rivers or in a cave. (Mines of course are slightly different), for commercial enterprises with under 18s there is a requirement to be Licensed through the Adventurous Activities Licensing Scheme...

Local Cave Leader Training For Scout Leaders

They shouldn't have been working on a SPA assessment unless they hold a MIA. It is a simple as that, I would bet that the paperwork submitted to Mountain Training doesn't show this! As a long standing Mountain Training provider, who just so happens to sit on the Quality Assurance panel, I know...

    Loose bolt in Swildons.

Just to let people know that I noticed today that the top bolt of the pair of glued in bolts at the top of the Twenty is moving around. Not enough to pull out currently, but there is cracking all round the resin. I'm sure that others may have noticed, but thought that I should share my observation.

    Rubbish in Swildon's

During a quick afternoon jaunt in the Upper series of Swildon's we found 4 empty cans of energy drink, three of them just dropped on the floor, but one was carefully positioned near the columns of the long dry way. We have been removed them, as you would expect.

    Cranham Stone mine

Let me know if you get any joy with this, as I would be keen to visit them.

    Upper Balls Green Mine

Has anyone else been in this mine recently? We went for a quick explore this afternoon of what we thought was it. (I.e the fenced off Mine marked on the 1:25K map near Ball's Green) and we couldn't find anything that looked like the photos that we had seen of it during our research. We entered...

    Browns Folly Mine.

As already suggested - Swan Mine is well worth an explore, in fact I think that it is more interesting that Brown's Folly Mine. Don't be put off about visiting Brown's. Its worth a visit.

browns folly is now stupidly dangerous

Having been in Brown's this afternoon, I couldn't find evidence of the cow poo around Muddy Entrance, yes it was slightly muddy and it was a different colour to the soil around there, but there was certainly no associated smell. Likewise i'm not sure where these newly built walls are, but we had...

    Browns Folly Mine.

This is not strictly true, have just got out of Brown's Folly Mine within the last hour and following the suggested route on the back of the survey was not a problem at all. We joined it at point 3 after coming in the Muddy Hole and followed it round to the Muddy Hole again, there was only one...

Recommend me some local trips to do.

I was out underground yesterday at another new venue, to me at least. Can you guess where went? https://www.facebook.com/rockandwateradventures/photos/pcb.1104337306273835/1104337289607170/?type=3&theater

Recommend me some local trips to do.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Mike thanks for the offer, I was going to pop by the centre next time I'm down that way. Probably a week or so, as I'm off to the Peak to run a SPA before heading to North Wales to run a BCU Level 1 course.

Recommend me some local trips to do.

That would produce 200 options to go through and find the un-gated ones. Now I'm after recommendations as you lot know the systems better than I do, where do you think I should visit Cookie?

Recommend me some local trips to do.

Thanks Les. I've got a copy of the latest Mendip Underground - arrived last Friday, but was working in the Peak District for the weekend and haven't had much of a chance to have a read of it. Is there on any news on the 'Wiltshire and Bath Underground - an explorers guide' that is mentioned in...
