Booms sounds in Wapping?

Hello all,

Was in wapping/Cumberland this afternoon when we heard a deep boom inside the mine. 10 maybe 15 mins later we heard another while sitting down and could actually feel a slight vibration when the boom occurred.

We couldn't find anything that had moved, but we didn't go into the maze.

Anyone else experienced this?

No, but Ball Eye Quarry isn't that far away. Either that or someone just reopened the Masson Cavern/Gentlewoman's connection

I've felt Hope cement quarry blasts in Peak Cavern a few times, and it's quite an experience if you're in one of the big tubes when it happens. We've done sound recording in there too, and we always prayed one would go off whilst we were doing it, but sadly not.

I have also experienced the noise and feeling of a collapse while in Wapping. We were crawling around in some obscure bits of the maze, looking at dried pools that had developed cave ice. We saw no evidence of movement or any dust or smell you might associate with a significant amount of movement. Think I mentioned it on the forum at the time, and in view of the lack of evidence we assumed we heard a collapse in the now blocked Royal or Tear Breeches mine that is adjacent?

It really was quite strange as wasn't really expecting it. It wasn't really loud but you could tell it was a big boom by the deep sound

We felt it while sitting on the level block at the top of the stairs in Cumberland but again was only a miner vibration accompanying the sound

It was Ball Eye Quarry blasting again. I can imagine it was quite a scare underground.

I live in Upperwood, a group of houses above Matlock Bath and Wapping Cumberland. I am part of of a residents group that get notice from Collins who own it. Our house literally shakes and picture fall off walls! They put monitoring devices in our gardens when they blast.
Their last information is that they will be blasting twice, 1 and 1:30 every Wednesday. Collins use Facebook to link to us and the other communities.

Around our way, Hanson's offer a text message notification for blasting. They'll tell you on the morning and half an hour before each blast.
Not that there are (m)any caves in close enough proximity to matter.
