Cave Names Database

Logo 3.jpg

I've had this project on the back burner for a while and I've finally got around to doing it.

Caves, passages and pitches have an amazing assortment of quirky names, but do you know how they came about? I think most people who weren't involved in the original exploration probably won't and many of the origin stories of these names will never have been recorded. I wanted to create a place to do that before they get forgotten.

This new website aims to be a repository of cave names and will eventually be a bit of a rip off of the Urban Dictionary. For now, I invite people to submit any cave name origin stories they know of (or even just think they know). It can be for the actual name of the cave or a part within.

Once a reasonable amount of data has been submitted, it'll all be available to see and will hopefully continue to build over time.

I'm happy to take any suggestions you think would improve this project too.

Great idea, but I would prefer to be able to interrogate / view from day one so that I know my contributions weren't disappearing into a black hole.

Yes, that's the longer term plan. At this stage I'm just gathering some starting data.
