Coal outcrop “coleorton”

Hello all

Have just been reading my latest read and it mentions a coal outcrop at Coleorton?

I have seen a outcrop before in the fod so I believe they can still be found if you no where to look . I was wondering if anyone on here has any knowledge of this. I wish I knew more about it but it just says the seam has been mined for over 1000 years and as the usual started by bell pits . I live around hour away from this and like everyone else am very busy but would love to be able to visit when over that way .

There was some interesting pillar and stall work found round there during opencasting which proved to be Tudor in date - in particular, a miner's tunic was found - see https://pdmhs.co.uk/MiningHistory/Bulletin 12-3 - The Tudor Miners of Coleorton, Leicestershire.pdf.
There was a museum (the Snibston Discovery Centre)there but it's now closed as far as I'm aware.

Interesting. I'm planning to drive back from Derbyshire back South again on Wednesday as I have an "errand" up those parts Usually though things have taken longer than estimated and I'm driving in a rush so not very likely I'll have spare time to divert, but you never know...
Sounds worth a full day's visit though.
