Going to be in Allendale on Sunday. Does anyone know what Elpha Green caves are like? Was planning on going for a look. I have a survey of it but don't have NC1 which is an arse, so any info would be appreciated!
Thanks

Rift Cave in west end of quarry wall, Length 9M.
  • Crawl to squeeze up into small stal floored chamber.
Main cave in north bank of stream just over wall from east end of quarry, length 250M
  • Some crawls; some wet, some nice decorated chambers.
  • Upstream duck can be passed by crawl up into chamber on right to tube on left of chamber.
  • after upstream duck, climb up on left leads to well decorated 4.5M high Penguin Chamber.

Permission required from Elpha Green Farm (may be refused)

Sounds like fun :) hope you have a good time.

Thanks for the info. Went up there for a look but others wern't keen on entering so will have to return! There appears to be a dry stone wall blocking one of the entrances but will have to investigate further.

For anyone wanting to use this for future reference, Elpha Green farm no longer owns the land the cave is on, but as long as you dont use the entrances in the quarry face (jump the small stone wall and use the entrance in the stream bank) theyre ok with people having a poke about, tbh though the main bedding squeeze is now so tight that not even the skinniest member of our party could get through and we had no tools with us, clay floor has a distinct rise in it now which would probably only take half an hour to clear with a trenching tool
