    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Looks like I'm organising this one. Fairy/Hilliers is Mendip's second best through trip and well worth a visit. It's only a couple of hours and is not particularly difficult. It's quite pretty in places. I suggest a 2pm start. Please contact me if you want to come along.

I've heard him say that too, but I think he was on about something else.

Andy, can't we do this trip a bit earlier in the day..like about a 12 am start? so we can have the rest of the afternoon to do something with.

The Fairy/Hilliers through trip is straightforward if you're thin. There's a lot of pretties in Hilliers around Cambridge Grotto and beyond; perhaps worth taking a camera.

Sorry I can't make it but I'm off to Yorkiepuds.

Don't forget we have to drive from Swansea on Saturday morning!

Hi, Andy. Hope the trip goes well; will someone write a report so I know what I've missed?

Off soon to get washed clean "ooop North".

TRIP REPORT

Andy S, Mel, Liz, Steve, Andy H, Judi and guest Brendon.

We met on Priddy Green and proceeded in convoy to Fairy Cave Quarry. Nice to see the last vestiges of travellers detritus have been removed from the bottom of the Hilliers entrance chimney. We ambled along through the pleasant passages of Hilliers until we reached the start of the boulder chokes, where the caving proper begins. It probably took us half an hour to to wriggle, squeeze and contort through the next 60 metres of the cave to Cambridge Grotto. The Grotto is actually a section of decorated scalloped passage with quite attractive elongated pools along its length. There is plenty more cave to explore beyond this point but we headed back, after a few photos, towards the easier passage and the route to Fairy Cave. Mel, Judi and Steve opted to take the Fairy Cave exit while the rest of us plodded out towards the Hilliers entrance. We went over to the Fairy entrance in time to meet the others before they surfaced. The only drama of the day ensued when Mel, just about to pop up through the Fairy entrance, came face to face with her arch nemesis, Meta Menardi, but I'll leave her to tell that story....

You always wonder if the crawling, squeezing and contortion is worth it, but yes Cambridge Grotto was very nice and I liked the challenge of the fairy cave exit (gosh, did I really say I liked 2 squeezes and a very wet duck :? ) Thank you Andy and Mel

Yes. another fine trip with the mighty Cheddar Caving Club, made even finer by the Butcombe at the Queen Vic afterwards!

Look forward to seeing Andy's pics, especially the ones of the trip warm up!

Yep, another great trip, made all the more enjoyable by the company but next time can I suggest we nominate a spider catcher for me so that I can at least exit the cave enterance alive.
