GB cave and guest insurance

On the CSCC website, under Access for GB Cave (and other CCC caves), it states:

"PERMITS AND INSURANCE
All cavers visiting these caves require a valid permit. Permits may be issued by any one of the eleven member clubs to their own club members and guests. Each club maintains its own public liability insurance which provides cover for members and guests"

I belong to one the clubs that issues these permits; I am a member of BCA as are all the other members of my club. So we all have BCA insurance but this does not extend to guests. So it comes as a suprise to read that "Each club maintains its own public liability insurance which provides cover for members and guests". How is it that guests are insured - is the premium included in the 50p permit cost, if so it is a bargain compared to the ££ I have to pay? I am sure that they are not insured through my club? When I issue a permit to a guest, does that guest then beleive he is insured - after all, it says he is on the CSCC website?

Can anyone explain, please?

That entry is misleading. CCC carries its own PI insurance, as do the member clubs. We do not carry cover for visitors. The permits are issued to cover the costs of administering the access system.

Thanks Graham

The CSCC website say that the information was supplied by the CCC Ltd. It also says that These charges provide revenue which helps to defray the costs of insurance

Should it be updated then, to avoid misunderstandings?

Hi Martin,

You've put your finger on some text that is way out of date.

Graham would you like to revise the text for me and I'll update the website.

OK Boss, but not tomorrow, 'cos it's our anniversary & we are out for the day. I'll do it by the end of the week.

Cookie, is the access info available as a text file which I can check for anything out of date and provide updated corrections for?.... Just a thought!

The short answer is no. That is part of the great Database Driven-Integrated-Handbook-Website project. But if you cut and paste it of the website into NotePad you'll have a text version.  ::)

However, I've just checked the Handbook version. That is more up to date. The offending insurance sentence has been removed, no mentions of BW etc.  I'll update the website.  :-[

I've updated the CSCC website with respect to the current insurance situation. I've fix a couple of other things, such as the number of member clubs.

If you could double check it for me Graham, that would be great.

Now the Handbook is out of date.

Cookie, I'm trying to get a list of the CSCC member clubs to post new CSCC padlock keys to: the Secretary's in Japan and is trying to help but I can read the files he's sent me and the Treasurer's computer is built of balsa and an old music box so that can't communicate with my machine either. Can you help?

I'd like to send the new keys out tomorrow if possible!

Aye, don't care if you're insured or not. Screw up & we'll sue.  8)

The £10 is a deposit, you get that back, unless you leave the key on the roof of your car before driving back to the hut.
