Hope Cement Works Consultation

Does it close in 2042 or is it just some date that all these sites have been given (for now) which obliges them to perform this consultation?

(That was a question above... and shouldn't be misinterpreted that I know what I'm talking about)

The current mineral extraction permission for the quarry runs out in 2042, and the overall tone of what's being said on the consultation website suggests they don't think they'll be able to get an extension to that.

I read somewhere else that they're in no great risk of running out of limestone in that area 🤣, but the works also consumes shale to "cook" up with the lime for cement and they will run out of suitable shale on site around that date anyway. Again not certain of the accuracy, just regurgitating hearsay.

I'm no geology expert either, but I think the problem with the shale quarries is that they can't go any deeper, as they either hit unsuitable beds, or possibly more likely, clay/water. It's only just above river-level. There was also an extension of the Navio Roman fort found recently, in the shale quarry. From what I know, which again isn't much, the limestone quarry is definitely not going to go any further SW onto Bradwell Moor, and instead they're going to take off the rectangle on the north side heading toward Dirtlow Rake, up to the copse of trees, but well before the road. At the current quarry floor depth, that's a lot of rock.

Me and Scud went along yesterday afternoon, as reps of DCA, and it was very useful and interesting - and nice to be asked in advance of something happening - for once! Don't forget to fill in the online survey if you're interested in what happens to the site.
