Is Jug Holes ok to take a beginner? From what I can remember of it I think it is but I've been told its not.
Can it be accessed from the bottom adit? If not is it free climable from the top end?

I think generally that Jug Holes is a good beginers trip, but via the top (main) entrance. There are a few scrambles and quite a bit to see.

I haven't been in the adit entrance for a long while, so can't vouch for that.

You could also consider Masson Mine, accessed via Masson Lees Quarry That is a great novice trip, with big passages and chambers.

Also consider a simple Giants Hole trip, as far as Gralands pot, but including the Upper East and Upper West passages that lead off before that. These are often neglected but are quite good really.

At this time of year I'd tend to avoid Jug Holes the rear section is a bat
roost and waking them up isn't good for their health.

Watching them negotiate passages in the summer on the other hand is one of the great joys of being underground.

Adit entrance is OK - just take a derbyshire key (big spanner). Be aware of stacked deads and ginged roof in places, and the odd shaft in the floor. Handline useful for the upper entrance and maybe zig zag climb. Goat walk just needs common sense...
Most dangerous bit at the moment would be the slippery path down to it!
I would not reccomend the streamway for novice trips - a bit of a maze and like being inside a ker-plunk game. The lower unsurveyed workings should be avoided by everyone. Beware of the Bats!
Enjoy!
