    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

That was an early cave for me, i'd probably have used a ladder for anything i couldnt step over  :)

I really liked it down there though.  All the zig zag stuff was quite cool, and pyramid pot was quite peculiar, almost perfectly circular, and very wide despite the very small drop.

Hmmm - Personally I didn't like Tynings much. The whole cave just felt very brown and ugly. Granted it's a decent length trip and velcro passage is amusing for the masochistic.

Do you still have to collect the key from the opposite side of the mendips before you can get in it?

Hi Andrew - Like i said, it was a while ago - as you say it's not super exciting.  And it was one of my first trips, when everything was impressive :)

Is velcro the one with the sharp fossils ?

As far as I know you still need to go to green ore for the key.  (Have a search, there was a thread somewhere trying to organise a trip there i think)

Granted. Mind you, isn't it a bit tricky on a ladder when a numpy puts their leg through a rung and ends upside down in a waterfall too?

 Yes Captain you are right, sounds very nasty, has that happened to one of your parties then?

Certainly has the potential to be nasty... possibly why how to get someone out of that situation is covered in the appropriate certification sylabi [?]. Seen it happen, and cured the issue speedily and safely. Good example of proper planning and practice preventing piss poor performance...

So you haven't been there since 1999, then. Only 8 years!

three tiny ladders but fairly long streamway

three?

The entrance is a split pitch single ladder; where are the other two?

Ladder one, off entrance bar, about 5 metres

ladder two, just inside cave, off two spits, again about 5 metres

Ladder three, Pyramid Pot, again about 5 metres, very long belay about 5 metres back to spits.

Considering I'll be on my own, it'll be SRT (making me look typically northern).

What's a condom...? It's all crisp packets in the choicest parts of Barnsley!

But yes, I have a yellow suit.

You'll stand out a mile. Everyone will stare and point. It will be embarrassing. You'll be the only one.

You'll also get far too hot.

Ignore me.

Only to check the air; been unable to get beyond Pyramid Pot 4 times out of the last 5.

Why's that then ?  Water levels or bad air ?  Must have been as dry as a bone when i was there, i think pyramid was completely dry !  It might have been one of those times in summer when there was loads of airspace in swildons sump 1.

We went all the way to the end - i think there was a blasting sign.

I liked it - but whether Stu will consider it a mendip classic i'm not so sure.

As for recommendations I'd say eastwater, it scares the crap out of me, but it's satisfying for sure.  It may even allow you to stand up from time to time if it's nice to you.

If it's SRT compatible stuff you want there are certainly a few options, but I'm sure Chris is a much better man to ask than I.
