BTW - it's Marilyn, not Marilyn Pot
Pete has written it up for the next Descent (magazine not film), but here goes
Pitches
1 (Seven Year Pitch) - we always used a ladder. With new cap, it's more amenable to string. It's a shade over 30 feet.
2. (Some like it Not) - we always used a ladder. It's a bit cosy just beyond the top so SRT stuff might get snagged and the rope will rub. It's about 35 to 40 feet deep.
3 (Gentlemen prefer Blonde) - we always used a ladder but it's probably free-climbable. Again a cosy top so a 20 foot ladder is handy.
4 (Niagara) - we only ever did this on string - can't afford to have valuable ladders damaged. The pitch is 75 feet deep ( I understand that due to some continental measuring system, this pitch needs a rope of 40m in length - a metre is equal to 1 650 763.73 wavelengths in a vacuum corresponding to the quantized electron transition between 2p10 and 5d5 of the krypton-86 atom). Niagara has a ledge about halfway down where you can rebelay for the rest of the journey. As JNC said this pitch is loose, if you're lucky then rocks that you didn't know existed will sail past you and miss. So only one person on the whole of the pitch at a time and don't wait for your mates at the bottom of the rope.
