    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Just because it is in writting does not mean it is true.
You do not belive everything that is in writting. (Newspapers, political writtings, bibles,
stuff written a long time ago, stuff copied from other people as if it was gospel)
Mind you Andy could be right. ;)

If it's on this forum it's in writting. If it's on a website it's in writting. Do you want someone to ring you up and tell you over the phone. That wouldn't be in writting, would it. Remember doubting Thomas. Sometimes you need to have an incy wincy bit of faith.

Rumur has it that Tyning's Barrow's Swallet rises in gough's, I bet it hasn't been stream tested.
If people say it has, i wouldn't mind betting they meant Tyning's Stream which drains into the origonal entrance to G.B. Cavern :cautious:

WTF is 'e on about now?  ::) ::) ::)

Even i got confused as well !

:coffee:
Well,
There are quite a few possible confusions over the name Tynings
There is the farm where David Reakes and family live.
There is Tyning's Field Dig, also known as Palmer's Cave
(flooded hole with decompsing cat when I last looked)
There is the main cave Tyning's Barrows Swallet

Tyning's as on land belonging to Tyning's farm,
Barrows as in prehistoric barrows in same field
Swallet as in it occasionly takes large quantities of flood water,
twice for me I have found the cave after the entrance pitches impassable with ragging flood water.

Tyning's Gate Ochre Caves,,,,, I have never located them buggers

Tyning's Farm Swallet also known as Tyning's Stream Swallet.
It would probably be more accurate to refer to it using Stream
but I suspect Tyning's Farm Swallet was its origonal name as this was before any of the caves there were known

Let us call it Tyning's Stream Cave

This is an occasional stream that flows into the origonal entrance to G.B. Cavern

I suspect that when people have said Tyning's has been tested,
that they mean this stream

I suspect that the stream in the main cave,
Tyning's Barrows Swallet has not been stream tested.
I await correction :coffee:

When I wrote, I await correction,
I meant

Has the actual stream water inside of Tyning's Barrow's Swallet been stream tested?

Or perhaps, as I suspect, it was in fact the Tyning's Stream, which enters
G.B. Cavern, that was actually stream tested.

Thus old knowledge being misinterpreted!

Now I await correction :-\

Well, nobody out there in Mendipshire wanting to do any correcting?
Mendip The Complete Caves and a view of the hills
page 166  Tyning's Farm Swallet,
                Tyning's Stream Swallet

Stream sinks under small cliff into descending passage and vanishes in impassable rift, reappearing in the Boulder Chamber of G.B.Cave.
U.B.S.S. began digging the site in 1921,
and entered the cave in 1923.
The entrance became blocked a few years later and has not been reopened.

Now granted Dr. Stanton does not actually say that The U.B.S.S. first entered G.B. Cave, via Tyning's Farm Swallet,
this is how it reads.

I am suggesting that when people say Tyning's has been tested to Gough's that they are actually meaning this stream ie. Tyning's Farm Stream
has been tested to Gough's.
Not the water in the cave Tyning's Barrows Swallet.
