NPC Extension: Electrician Required

The Northern Pennine Club is currently having an extension built on our club cottage, Greenclose. Many will already be aware of this work.

Majority of the civil work is done and we are now looking at electrical installation. Supply for lighting, heating, sockets and ventilation, install of new consumer unit in the extension. We already hold some materials for this on site. We are looking for a qualified electrician to take on the work.

Are there any qualified electrician cavers willing to support a Dales club and take on this work? Or able to recommend electricians in the Dales/Forest of Bowland/Lancaster area?

Many thanks in advance, Will

You don't actually say so, but I assume you are looking to get the job done cheaply/free.
Failing that, you are allowed to do the work yourselves and everything involved is straightforward enough for a couple of competent diyers. There is plenty of guidance online.
You will need to tell your local Building Control people before you start (and ask what their inspection fees are, typically £300 to £600 IIRC).
They will make 2 visits and issue the necessary certificate at the end.
It's worth asking what the time scale would be because back when the Part P regulation came into force in 2005 I spoke to the guy at Sheffield and he had only one electrical inspector for the whole of Sheffield!
I believe that since then they have been allowed to subcontract Part P qualified people from outside so things are a bit quicker.
Apologies if you have already considered this option.

Thank you for your feedback, we have considered completing the work ourselves but are conscious of approval/certification.

I wasn't specifically aware of the process you have mentioned, we will investigate this with our Building Control.

Many thanks, Will
