At the risk of taking this off topic again :) ( think what @Badlad and @Pitlamp touched upon here is an important topic)

I first visited yordas some 35 years ago ( With my dad), it was like some magical hidden place. You might have learnt of its location by word of mouth, studying an OS map or by reading Mike Harding or Tony Waltham !

Alas 2-3 years ago..... the last time I was there, someone had lit a fire in the entrance which was still smoking away ... no doubt pretending to be cave dwellers.

A quick google on the topic... "yordas" is even on tripadviser ! gets some good reviews mind you ! :D

Holding myself back from bemoaning social media and the internet (can we turn it off now please :ROFLMAO: ) Some advice on site promoting the country code and caving in general could be a good idea. Although before that some way of tracking how many people are actually visiting would be useful to understand if indeed it is a problem to worry about. Surely the NP does that sort of stuff on the 3 peaks?

RE Yordas Cave interpretation board... this is something I may be able to fund through YDMT's grants (I am the Trust's Grant Officer). We would work with the park (shouldn't be an issue with planning) but for obv reasons the landowner would have to apply, not me. Happy to take this up if there's mileage?

On the note of this, I’ve always thought it would be good to have a sign on the paths that pass alum pot (and probably say bull pot of the witches) to say please don’t throw stones down there might be people below.

I heard some almighty booms from rocks being lobbed down whilst I was at the window to alum, and saw some people passing the surface

Gaping Gill, too. Just leaving after the last tractor down at the end of a winch meet, I watched someone pick up a grapefruit sized stone and raise it to throw. Shouting ensued. There's already a board there, though, warning that "INJURY OR DEATH CAN RESULT" if you visit the side passages, but nothing about the danger to third parties.

" . . . please don’t throw stones down there might be people below"

From Wiki:
In July 1936 Mabel Binks became the first caving fatality in the Yorkshire Dales when she was hit by a rock falling down the Main Shaft.
Evidence from the inquest indicated that it had been thrown down deliberately.
