SRT trip ideas - extending experiance

Why not go to Yordas and spend a couple of hours rigging it in every combination possible? The top and middle entrances are fairly straightforward, as is chapterhouse going directly down, but the traverse out at the top of chapterhouse would be fun for conosseurs (sp???).
The pitch heads are all comfortably roomy enough for faffing about with people showing each other what's what and for people to be looking over each others shoulders, and being able to pop out at the bottom and leg it back up to the top would allow evryone to try more than one route.

Does anyone have a topo for Yordas as I cant locate one - thanks

Found this which shows the pot and the Chapter House traverse..

I think a 30 for the pot, 15 for the cave entrance and 15-20 for Chapter direct would be enough to rig it.. Taking a selection of ropes/other-tackle and then just working out the rigging for yourself when you're there is good for learning rather than just following the dot-to-dot guides..

Geoff Irbey fell also has the shadow route as an alternative to rig

Badger, is it Shadow where the water can turn on real quick half way down, making a dry route highly difficult to return ?

Is it normally doable in reasonable weather ?

Shadow becomes damp halfway down the big pitch, wouldn't want to try that or Bell pitch in wet weather.. I believe Bubbles route is best for damp weather.

From what I've heard, Shadow Route used to be a better alternative than Ding, Dong and Bell when a bit wet but in recent times there has been a change in the way the water flows and it can also get wet.

Bubbles route looks interesting though.

I  can confirm that due to redirection of surface water Shadow is much wetter in rainy weather than it was a few years ago! Ireby Fell is one to cautious of in wet weather.

Just a BIG thank you to everyone who offered advise on our next Yorkshire cave trip
Lots of excellent ideas to work though - great.
Problem we will have is deciding just which to do (and we need to set the date) !

Looks like more that one trip though

Many thanks everyone
Geoff

can anyone advise whether Little Hull Pot is worthy of inclusion, its distance from road and current access requirements ??
I see its not too suited for wet weather.

I would rate Little Hull as one of the more awkward to rig for SRT, although I note there is now a much easier to rig set of p-bolts that follow the water on the big pitch. Along with Diccan and Rowten, this is probably one to leave for a ltitle while.

I seem to have forgotten Lost John's from my original list. It's ideal for rigging practice as there are two dry routes that connect up with nice, easy rigging. If I were you, though, I'd avoid the Battleaxe traverse and below and I'd avoid the wet (Dome & Monastry) route. You need a permit for this too.

As for wet weather suggestions, Sell Gill dry route, Jingling (any route) and Bar Pot are probably the best ones. If it's wet but not in flood, then Long Churn to the bottom of Alum, Lost John's (the only water for the routes suggested above is the entrance bit anyway) and the top three pitches of Bull Pot would also be fine.

If you would like the help, if I am available the weekend you choose, I'm very happy to show you around.

BUT if there is a chance of rain, follow the "slot" alternative for the third pitch.

A group I was with had a minor epic when following the wet alternative (even though dry on the way in) after a very heavy hail storm and rapid melt had water coming down on the upward journey when there had been no water on the way down the cave.

I was on the surface at the time and witnessed the hail etc. but had no idea of the trouble it caused those underground until afterwards.

Thanks Paul .. I always use the slot route and, therefore, didn't mention it. Well worth pointing out.
