Has anyone visited or know anything about the Swilly Hole at Haltclif Bridge near Hesket Newmarket in Cumbria.
I can't make head nor tail of the description in Northern Caves 3.
Any info or a route description would be most welcome.

Can't help personally but wasn't there a thread on this very question last year at one point? I remember Tony Marsden gave a lecture at a BCRA Conference at least 15 years ago which included some detail about this cave - but I asked him about it last year and he couldn't remember.

I also think that there might be a reference to this in the Kendal Caving Cub's extensive literature (although I suspect they might have used a different name for the cave). I think there's something about it in their excellent 50 years journal which they brought out last year. Possibly they found this cave before the club which got the exploration credit in Northern Caves.

This isn't a lot of help but maybe better than nowt?

I'll have a look through the 50th Journal for you today and see if I can see anything....

I'm fairly sure that a main protagonist in pushing this cave was Pete Eagan.
Don't have contact details for him at present, but I'm sure you could get something from the matienzo cave group site.
He often appears on there.
