In 1830 Brunel's father faced dwindling funds for his Rotherhyde Tunnel project under the Thames after a flooding incident. Brunel had the inspirational idea of holding a dinner party in the partially completed tunnel to prove that the tunnel was safe. Lords and ladies dined in style boosting investor confidence so the project could continue.

200 years after anniversary of Brunel's birth, The Institute of Civil Engineers in the South West has decided to celebrate the event by recreating the famous tunnel dinner.

Fortunately a disused length of Brunel's double broad gauge tunnel exists beneath the centre of Bristol; home of Brunel's "Darling and first love", The Clifton Suspension Bridge.

This large and capacious tunnel has been prepared with lighting, dance floor and banqueting tables to seat up to 300 people, and is a truly unique venue to celebrate Brunel's life and works.

Cost £65

Is there going to be any Butcombe available?

As the tickets are so cheap I imagine they've all sold out already.
