I came across this article today,,,,,from the Island that gave the world Pickles Sparrows  :yucky: ( caught with highly illegal Lime Stick and nets)

Is this on The Greek side of Cyprus?
 
Yes, just near Paphos.
  Greek Cypriot  "Hunters" will shoot just about anything that moves ( Except the Turks in 1974, when they couldn't run away fast enough.) they've even been known to shoot Land Crabs, Griffin Vultures, and Moufflons ( a type of indigenous Mountain goat) 

25 Years ago, when I was stationed there, song birds were almost unknown then, most having been caught, roasted and pickled.
